Prompt: Word Prompt: Experiment

WORK Beth watches her two youngsters hop from the porch to the pavement and then trot to school. She goes back into the house and to her bedroom. She dresses in clothes that neighbors are used to seeing her wear to work. But, her work has gone to full automation thus putting her and other folks out of work. To supplement her unemployment payments, she works as a prostitute. “His name is Steven,” her madam tells her. “He has money so be good.” The Man is tall and appears to be in his late fifties; he waves her into the hotel room and then motion for her to go into the bedroom while keeping his robe from opening. He has the cellular telephone pressed to his ear. “I’ll take care of it,” he shouts but not to get the person to hear him. “Don’t worry; I’ll take care of it.” His conversation ends and he throws the phone onto the couch. Beth, naked, sees that her client is agitated. He loosens the robe while mumbling his anger at someone. “If you’re not in the mood,” Beth says. The Man aims his pointing finger at her. “Then you put me in the mood,” he demands and then remove the robe from his slender body. “Earn your money,” he says as he stretches on the bed. Nothing happens. Beth stands by the side of the bed. “I’m sorry sir but whatever got your nerves all messed up has affected your desire for happiness.” The Man sits on the side of the bed. “You’re right.” Beth sucks in air and let out, “I still have to be paid.” He looks at her in a manner that makes her shiver. “Don’t shit on the floor; you’re right about that too.” He points to his robe, signaling her to get it and give it to him. She does. He reaches into a pocket and takes out a fold of bills and counts from it while letting out his frustration. “I set people up to be killed, and this one son of bitch, I can’t get him into being in the wrong place at the right time for one of my guys to get him.” He looks at Beth telling himself he said too much. She sees it in his eyes. “I didn’t hear a damn thing,” she says. “You’re sure?” “Damn right I’m sure. Well matter of fact, I was thinking maybe I can help you.” “Help me?” “Yeah.” He studies Beth. “Nope. I only got guys working for me.” She sits on the side of the bed. “So, experiment with a woman.” The man studies her. “I got to get this contract finish.
