Anne Lewis Shealy I know I’m not answering your question, but my favorite memory of TKAM is when I taught a class of “the auto-mechanics boys” in high school. They fussed about having to read it. So, they came over to my little rental house and sat on the porch that looked over mountains of Western NC, and I read chapters aloud to them. With all the freaky things that we hear about teachers in the news today, I know this story must sound a bit weird. But, it was such an innocent time. Sort of like Scout’s innocence. It was a gorgeous setting, a beautiful book, and minds soaking it up like a sponge.
